Trubster's First Mix
« on: October 21, 2014, 09:41:45 AM »
My First Mix :D

I went for a simple first mix, Its surprisingly nice and very similar to "Monkey Jizz"

I made up a 30ml VG/PG 50/50 base mix with 7mg of nicotine out of the 72mg concentrate (Not sure of the calculations - went off the spreadsheet)

Then add 10 ml of Capella Banana

The 10 ml of Capella Vanilla Custard

Mix it all up in a 50ml bottle and let it steep for a few days, heat it up and shake again and I'm now vaping it

Very nice.

Cost me about £7 to make up 50ml's and I would have paid £18.50 for 50mls of Monkey Jizz.

I can't believe I have put off making my own liquid for so long, its easy and cheap.

It's not too strong, If anything, it needs a bit less banana and more custard flavour

I followed the recipe off the Alchemist's site

Quote
Steve 386ís Vanilla & Banana Custard
To make 10ml:- Add 2ml of Capella Vanilla Custard and 2ml of Capella Banana to 6ml of your preferred VG/PG/Nic mix.

Obviously multiplying the quantities by 5.

That program on here is really good for telling you the exact quantities you need to mix the base.

That is awfully dilute flavoring concentrate.  A lot of the flavorings need about 20%, but this is the first I have heard of that needs 40%.

Remember that using so much flavoring is going to knock the nicotine concentration way down. Your end juice is only 4.2 mg/ml. The calculations are easy.

30 ml of 7 mg/ml = 7 x 30 = 210 mg nicotine.  End volume is 50 ml, so 210 / 50 = 4.2 mg/ml.

Just found my calculations;

To make 50mls @ 7 mg/ml

PG: 12.57mls
VG: 12.57mls
Nic(72mg/ml): 4.86mls
Banana Concentrate: 10mls
Vanilla Custard Concentrate: 10mls

I made up the 30ml VG/PG base using these calculations from the spreadsheet I use and just added the 2 x 10ml bottles

Measured as near as possible using a 1ml syringe

Will get Pedaldog to give his feedback once "Zee Laboratory" has analysed my sample

My apologies, I goofed up the calculations. And they are simple, if you use the proper quantities.  #T#

Ending volume 50 ml x 7 mg/ml = 350 mg/nicotine.
350/72 = 4.86 ml of 72 mg/ml base.

Being the lazy person I am, I would just make that 5 ml. It comes out to 360 mg and that extra 10 mg in a final 50 ml mix is going to be insignificant - you would end up with 7.2 mg/ml.

Was your 72 mg/ml nicotine base 50/50 PG/VG?
Also, what were the carriers in your two flavorings?
Both of these affect the final PG/VG ratio. It all depends on whether that ratio is important or not.

I believe the concentrates contained "PG, Flavourings and Water" - Thats what is in the coconut bottle I still have left

Nic is in VG

Ratio not important imo, it tastes nice and vapes like a steam train :D

The exact PG/VG ratio certainly is not important - which is why I round all my calculations.  But you might be able to tell the difference between 70:30 and 50:50. Even that might be compensated for by simply changing the vaping wattage.

If you want to be a bit more accurate in your PG/VG calculations - assume that those particular flavorings are 100% PG and that the nicotine base is 100% VG. That will revise the ratio of PG/VG you need to add to get your final solution. The total volume of PG plus VG will not change, it will still be 25.1 ml. The calculator that is pinned here in The Den takes that into consideration for at least the nicotine base - I don't recall if it does so for flavors as well.

On the other hand, there is no need to bother if you are satisfied. That is all that really matters.

As an addendum:

If you think that you will be sticking close to the 50:50 ratio, you can save yourself some work when you next buy nicotine base by getting it already mixed to 50:50. That is what I did when I made my purchase from MFS, it allows me to mix juices over almost the full range of 70:30 to 30:70.

I have just downloaded this

http://ejuice.breaktru.com/

It is recommended on the Alchemist's site and is free

Quote
To make 50ml at 50/50 VG/PG Ratio.

7mg/ml from 72mg/ml Concentrate

Nicotine (VG Base) - 4.86ml (9.72%)
PG - 5ml (10%)
VG - 20.14ml (40.28%)
Banana Concentrate (PG) - 10ml (20%)
Vanilla Custard Concentrate - 10ml (20%)

Will have to try this one next time.

That looks like the same one that is pinned at the top of one of The Den groups.

I assume the VC is also in PG. The flavorings account for the 20 ml of VG. The nic base is roughly 5 ml of VG, which accounts for the 5 ml of PG added.

Yep, it checks out.

I just finished the sample Comrade Trubski sent and it was pretty Good Stuff :()()
I normally do a lot higher nicotine and it was still good at the lower level. I reckon perhaps a Tad less of the Banananana flavour but not more than couple of % as it was a pretty good balance. the pg/vg was okay but I'd prefer a bit more PG these days, might have been because of the low nicotine thinking about it. Very little tweaking though so Good stuff and keep on the mixing.
Cheers Y'all :)Y)

ps TEH PUPPY is safe for now but remember, I know where it lives!

Pedaldog,

I calculate that the mixture was 65% PG / 35% VG on the last batch as I cocked up in not accounting for the base in the capella & nicotine

I was going to make the next lot at 50/50, but you would like to see more PG?

Also, I was going to suggest the next lot is 20% Custard, 15% Banananananana :D - Would you suggest upping the Vanilla Custard to 25% to keep the 40% Flavour mixture?

Here's my next batch, not sure why, but this lot needs a lot of steeping, the other one was ready to go from mixing. It looks almost clear.

Quote
30mls

8mg Nic 50/50 VG/PG
15% Banana/25% Custard

Nic (72mg/ml in VG) 3.33ml - 11.1%
PG 3ml - 10%
VG 11.67ml - 38.9%
Banana (PG) 4.5ml - 15%
Custard (PG) 7.5ml - 25%

Will post the results when they are available :D

Flavours % seem a bit high. Unusual to need 40% of concentrate, especially Capella???
