Look at it like this:

A faucet is the fluid analog of an electrical resistor. Both resist the flow of something.

Pretend you have two identical faucet on your sink, side by side (e.g in parallel).

If you open just one of them, a certain amount of water can flow in any chosen time interval.
Open both of them and twice the water will flow over the same time interval. In other words, the resistance against the water flow is cut in half.

The same is true for two identical resistors. Connect two of them in parallel and the current flow doubles. Since that is true, the combined resistance must be one-half that of a single resistor.
