Favorite Vaping Rigs
« on: July 10, 2019, 09:58:33 AM »
At the request of Lou (oldude) I'm offering the first post in a revue of Vaping Rigs. Post your favorite rig(s), and maybe a few words about why. Pics are always fun.

Here are my three everyday rigs. The two GeekVape Aegis and my EDC Istick TC40, with the three others I rotate: one in my pocket, one on a timer-controlled charger and two waiting. All with Aspire Nautilus tanks with the aftermarket "hollowed out" replacement tanks. The EDV has a Kanthat BVC running at 9 Watts. The two Aegis have the Aspire/Vaporshark Nickel Bottom coils running at 230˚ C (on the cool side); now I realize that the TC40 could handle the nickel coils, but I need to use up all the dozens of BVC Kanthal coils that I bought in anticipation of the Vapocalypse. All filled with my very own 65 mg/ml flavorless.

The iStick rides in my shirt pocket; the two Aegis sit by my reading chair and my computer chair.

65mg !!!!

omg that would put me on my arse.
Well, I take very short puffs, and only a few at any one time. Those few puffs satisfy me for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. I vape for the nicotine, and it is the rush that satisfies me. Strong e-juice taken in moderation raises my nicotine blood level suddenly, much like smoking did. 65 mg/ml is NOT for cloud chasers.

When I began vaping (stick-and-carto) 36 mg/ml was the strongest I could find, and it was barely enough to keep me off the smokies. I was also consuming so much e-juice that my daily nicotine consumption was around 250 mg per day. (I was chain-vaping.) By increasing the nicotine strength (once I learned DIY), I was easily able to moderate how frequently I vaped. Now, with the super-strong e-juice, I vape so much less that my daily nicotine consumption is consistently 85 mg of nicotine per day. Something to think about for those who find themselves chain-vaping weaker e-juice.

(For a couple of weeks I vaped 100 mg/ml, but I found that my daily consumption crept up to about 125 mg per day, plus it was too easy to overpuff and get a little nic-sick.)

Thanks, Pete!
My current favorite rig is the Joyetech Primos SE.  I have 3 of them in use daily topped with Wotofo RDTA tanks.  Still wrapping coils at 1.8 ohms.  At 83 years old and ten times legally blind in one eye, coil wrapping is not as easy as it once was!  Still have several  Istick 40's in reserve.  Also, several Wotofo RDTA's which are no longer made.

COME ON--all you oldtime Den members--satisfy our curiosity please?????

Most used is the Pico with a Serpent mini Ė 1.8Ω.
Copper steampunk Nano 120 with a 24mm Dvarw 1.8Ω.
Aegis with a Kayfun 4, 4ml stainless extension 1.8Ω ss coil in TC mode (think its a 4 lost count of my Kayfuns) I use this combo for a bomb proof setup.
Flavours, lets call it herb ;) & death-wish coffee.

I use the Vaporesso Swag topped with a Kayfun Prime @ 1.9 ohms

Secondary mod is a VaporFlask Stout in 26650 mode for when I want a really long runtime.

<snip>Aegis with a Kayfun 4 <snip>

How are you liking your Aegis? Do you use 26650s or 18650s with the spacer sleeve? Are you using the TC feature or VW/VV? Duh; you already answered that.

I use the 18650s and sleeve because that's enough to vape a single refill of my Nautilus tanks if I don't fill them quite to the top.

I'm using nickel coils and the TC function.

26650ís, I got the Aegis for its resistance to destruction so thought a glass tank wasnít the best idea.
As I canít see the liquid level after swapping the glass for stainless I use TC to stop getting burnt cotton.

When I travel/fly I use my iSticks... 20/30/40 .... They still get the job done.... and for whatever reason I get through airport checkpoints easier with them.

I didn't realise you could still buy them Kate.
Admittedly good in the day but that day was many years ago.

One further advantage of iSticks (and probably other mods with back-lit display screens). I find they make excellent low-light flashlights for those of us who retire long after our partners. With eyes even partially adapted to the dark, the OLED screen gives off enough light to show light-colored things (like the sheets on the bed) soon enough to prevent you from barking your shins on the bed rails. I hold it palm-down using my fingers to prevent much light from shining at my wife. (Plus, then it's handy for a few puffs every hour or so.)

I use only my iStick Pico, but pack two additional charged batteries in my kit. I rotate through them so they all get the same amount of use. My tank is still the Protank II with mostly 1.8 ohm coils. I also have a TC40W and an AeroTank in the kit as backups.  I augment the nicotine in my purchased juices to around 35 mg/ml. With a new coil, I start at 9.5 watts and slowly increase it as the coil gunks up. I change to a new coil when 14 watts is not sufficient.
