When to Change Wick and Coil
« on: December 12, 2017, 06:33:43 PM »
What's a good sign that you should change out your wick on your RDA/RTA/WXYZDA?

Should you change out your coil every time you change your wicking material?

Vapor production weakens, flavor is less

Depends on the type of coil you are using. Some of the thicker wired sub-ohm setups can last for ages... just scrape off the coil, pull out the cotton and put some new cotton in.

Weak overall performance, heavy amounts of caked on clinker, gunge, icky stuff etc.

Thank you Darth!

Just a newbie type of question that I think should be answered here in the Den.

I change the coil when cranking up the wattage no longer gives me the vapor production I want without starting to get a burned taste.

As other have stated, the coil should last for quite a few wick changes.

It's appreciated.

Just to add I started using cotton wick in my Kayfun V5 this week... also trying thicker gauges of kanthal to aid in the removal and reinsertion of new cotton in and out of the coil... the first one lasted 5 days.

Removed the cotton... dry burned the coil... the buildup actually caught a flame. Placed in a new bit of cotton... like brand new again.

I have some precut strips of cotton I placed in a tiny baggy that I keep in my wallet so I can replace the cotton if I'm out and about and caught needed a new one.
