The wattage needed depends on many variables, three major ones being the coil resistance, airflow rate and the wire gauge.

Judging from Cy stated, you may be using far too high a wattage, which can cause spitting.

Whenever you change anything about a setup, verify the best wattage or temperature. If you don't, you are unlikely to get the best flavor production and/or vapor volume desired.

If your ohms are fluctuating, try tightening the 510. Don't tighten too much though, I broke one recently.
