Kuro Koiler Wire Coiling Tool
« on: January 09, 2015, 04:56:31 AM »
From our friends at FastTech:

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1/10012175/2066304-kuro-koiler-wire-coiling-tool

Available in different coil diameter sizes and colours (including red for Caz!) from $2.69 for a single one.

Not sure that this is an essential accessory, but at least it comes in a box that looks like it's for spare part for a Russian tank from the 1950's  :D

I recently picked up two of the sizes.  2.5 and 3 mm.  Works great.  Especially for smaller gauges.

Yes lol.  I've been using that thing for a year and 4 months.   These coil jigs sure make pretty coils though lol. (Not that mine weren't. )

*sound a bit conceited  I think lol

I don't know whether it will replace my home-made coil winder, but this looked so elegant that I had to get one.

My first FastTech order. Wish me luck. I opted for the $1.29 China Post/USPS shipping. I've had really good luck with that from other China shippers.

I ordered one too - the 3-in-1 version (2, 2.5, and 3mm).  I forget the color.  Chartreuse, perhaps.  Or Mauve.

You'll note that it says "Ships in 7 days".

For those who don't know, that means THEY won't ship an order that includes it until 7 days have passed - assuming their estimation is right.  Doesn't mean YOU'll have it in 7 days...

Also: an authentic Kanger SubTank Mini.  To see what all the fuss is about.
Hey Todd, how's it goin'?

Way back in the '80s, during my telecom days, we used the same technology to do wire wrap. But since the pins were already in place, the tool consisted of the hollow tube on a screwdriver like handle.

IC sockets then were commonly available in wire wrap style, which made bread-boarding much faster than soldering. The pins were sharp edged, so they cut through the enamel insulation on the wire wrapping wire.

Jan 26 to Feb 28 - 33 days; not quite so fast as some China shippers.  :0))

Plastic case cracked but usable if I choose (I doubt I will). Four mandrels (2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 mm), a small flat blade, a small philips blade, and a 1.5 mm hex L-wrench. Main body and two double-ended winders for the four sizes. In Basic Black.

As delivered, it only winds left-handed helices (believe it or not, that is the correct plural of helix), but I can see how to modify it for right-hand coils. You might want a right-hand coil if one of your posts (the left one as you face the posts) is a few mm higher than the other; if the right one is higher, then left-hand helices are best to keep the coil horizontal.

Time for a visit to the basement machine shop and then some experimenting with coil winding. Assuming I don't get distracted making a really cool case for all the parts.
