2014... What Changes Will The Coming Year Bring...?
« on: October 31, 2013, 08:39:56 PM »
Ran this thread last year over on another forum, and some of the stuff predicted was very interesting...  So, what are your vaping related predictions for 2014...?

Will we see the downfall of the clones...?  Might there be a breakthrough in wicking materials...?  How much more popular will vaping become - have we hit a peak yet, or will 2014 carry on with the huge uptake of vaping...?

Get your predictions in early, and let's see what 2014 will bring...  :)

My five predictions:

1. Vaping will continue and possibly increase in popularity and use
2. We will begin to see a thriving Mech/Modder industry in the US and EU
3. We will see local and perhaps states over regulate creating the beginning of a "black market"
4. We will see nutra-ceuticals both become vaped themselves with no nic and we will see an increase in their use in juices
5. We will see the beginning of small E-cig business owners (especially retail B&M) begin to fail and a consolidation in the industry.

I think we will see a massive uptake on vaping in 2014...   Hardware predictions are going to be harder to make for this coming year though, I suspect...  I do think we will see new wick technology though, for the Genesis style atomisers...

Interesting point on the B&Ms there Mark, and I do agree with you...  2014 could be the year that sees more small independents popping up than ever before, with a LOT of failed businesses before the year is out...

I suspect we will see vaping hardware and supplies featuring in more high street chains, maybe petrol stations or supermarkets etc...

I predict that there will be a massive backlash of ridicule directed towards those that use the term"nutri-ceuticals" as both asinine and tacky... %5%  :}}}

I just use the term as it is industry specific, blame the market for naming them as such.  ::)

Heard a bit of an interesting piece today on branding and the value of brands. Perhaps we'll see some increased efforts by BT to edge in on the e-cig market, maybe trying to appeal to their current customers with "GROUNDBREAKING NEW TECHNOLOGIES!"

Yeah, right.  The technology, I mean.

Long story short: a larger presence of BT.

i reckon the biggest thing will be smaller to medium companies opening up bricks and mortar shops
the increase in vapers is gonna go through the roof
a few of the larger vendors will be taken over

insider gossip--- elites turned down a bid of 100 million a few weeks ago and told the interested party to double there offer before they would even get round the table to chat !!!!

i reckon there is some big money out there just waiting for a slice of the action

 ;D

The temporary trend has been valuations for sale based on a 12 to 15 times revenue model (Skycigs and Blu).  This is only going to be good for a little while longer while the Big guys (Big T, Big P (maybe) and large private equity houses like Carlyle and/or KKR jockey for the apparent convenient store/cig-a-like market.  Slow recognition of the Ego and above level device market plus the fact that there is only a few US companies in the Ego and above device market that would meet the low middle market or above classification means that within 24 to 36 months on the outside, we will see valuations drift into reasonableness and they will fall to the tradition 3 - 6 times EBITDA.  As such, Elite has a limited time frame and its best hope is actually the one Big T company that has not yet acquired an existing E-cig company or formed its own Ecigs (VU).

I think there will be some break through in the high end rebuildable atomizer and mod market...mainly that my collection of them will get larger.  :)) Seriously though I think the mod makers out there will step up their game and come out with some amazing gear next year.

i agree that mod makers will step it up
also micro mod makers will become more popular, those that can only make say 300 pieces a year
they will like hidden gems in our world

I predict lots of input from the "Elf an Safe Tea" people, that want to protect us from ourselves, making more safety rules about spillage, leakage, breakage and lots of other "'ages"  :)-1

I hear that dude...!!!   :D

I'm trying to steer clear of Vape Pit, for this very same reason...  Doesn't take long in there to find some new unobtanium that sets off the old mod fever all over again...   ;D
