My DNA20D Mod
« on: January 06, 2013, 09:08:22 PM »
Just a little preview of what I've been working on the past few weeks. My DNA20 mod has a 2200 lipo 3.7v internal cell, and onboard charging. The DNA20 does have short circuit protection but I did add in a PTC fuse to the cell for extra insurance. It is vaping really well. Now it just needs to go in a nice enclosure and it will be finished.

It's coming along good, but slowly. I had to redesign the enclosure about 2 dozen times trying to make sure I can get it as small as I can with the Li-po cell I picked out. I'm expecting it should be done by the end of the month or early February.

Being the electro dud that i an, i only kind of got that, but at least i will appreciate the final product.  It sounds like it is moving along and that you are doing ut right rather than doing it fast.

Yeah I would rather redesign the case several times over then have to send a bad file. otherwise I would have been stuck with a case that didn't work and I would be very disappointed.

Redwolf, sounds like you are following advice that a dear friend of mine who is a Jeweler always uses when designing stuff.... measure twice cut once rather than measure once cut twice.

Thought I would provide a small update on my mod. I've got the casing design finished and am now waiting for a friend to message me back so I can send him the blueprints. It will be CNC machined out of aluminum very soon.

which type of aluminum are you going to use nick? there are dozens of grades in common use, all with different properties and uses. its insane!

It will be 6061 Aluminum. As far as 6061-O or T4 or T6, I will have to find out the differences, if any.

The 6061 T6 is pretty tough stuff.  It's probably my favorite metal.  I've done some other non-ecig projects where I've used T6 for an enclosure and was really happy with it.  You can buff it to a mirror finish pretty easily.  Though it's not very scratch resistant.  But, it's strong and light and machines really well.

If its not very scratch resistant I may not want to go with that type, though the case is going to be anodized too.

Yeah, you can always treat the surface.  You can anodize with pretty hard metals I think.  That would resolve the issue.
